The Very First Hook Veterans Coffee Morning - 19 June 26

Friday 19th June began slightly nervously as final preparations for the very first Hook Veterans Coffee Morning got under way.  For a variety of reasons this day had been a long time coming.  To be precise it had all begun on 26 Feb at The Whitewater Health Veterans briefing.

Although we realised that these sort of ventures often started slowly, we weren't quite sure what to expect or how many people were likely to turn up.  Meeting at The Sue Hedges Memorial Hall we started to get the hall prepared for what might come.  Tables were unfolded and put in place, supplies moved to the kitchen and checked, and relevant decorations and pictures were put in place.

We thought that we'd left plenty of time to be ready for the planned 09.30 start but we were very pleasantly surprised when the first attendee walked in around 09.20. He was quickly followed in by the next, and then the next.  Experience told us that we may be lucky if there were four of us at the first meeting, knowing that some people were travelling and therefore couldn't make it.  Imagine our surprise when we ended up with eight of us sat around a large table doing exactly what we had set out to do, having a chat, a bit of banter, a cup of tea and a doughnut .... or two!!

Eight attendees may not sound great, but for our first meeting we were absolutely delighted at that.  Feedback from the meeting has been 100% positive and we are all looking forward to welcoming new members and getting the club properly established.

The saying "Mighty Oaks from little acorns grow" could never have been more appropriate than right then, so get yourself into gear and come and meet us on Friday mornings between 09.30 and 11.30.

A massive thank you to those people that had faith in what we're trying to achieve and turned out and made the launch a success.  An even bigger shout goes out to Sandra Tidy, for her unwavering support and for helping overcome what was always going to be a difficult issue to resolve, securing a suitable and affordable location/venue.

If you're still waiting to be convinced then take that chance and come and join us at one of the meetings to see for yourself.
