Planning For The First Coffee Morning

So following the result of the poll held in May it was decided that there was enough interest to support starting the Friday coffee mornings.  Looking at what we needed to get in place and the time required to get notice out to potential attendees, it was decided that 19 Jun would be the first coffee morning.  Time to get moving then on the purchase of customised mugs, posters and flags for decoration, and the consumable ingredients required to support a successful coffee morning. Planning For The Hook Village Show

Planning for The Hook Village Show started in earnest.  What would our pitch look like? How would we present ourselves? Was the message that we were trying to deliver, abundantly clear? Who would be able to come along and help set-up, meet the public and then help clear up afterwards?

So with an idea for the stall in mind, the purchasing began.  We were still operating on a "back-of-the-sofa" budget so spending was done very prudently.  A gazebo and a customised banner were purchased to go along with the flag purchased during May.  Picture frames were also purchased to display large copies of the two newsletters that had by now been produced, along with the clubs objectives and other relevant posters.  The idea seemed sound and when asked, there were a number of the coffee morning attendees who said that they would attend.

Future Coffee Mornings & External Organisations

The Village Show was going to be our first in-person contact with potential members and the general public and therefore warranted our attention, but at the same time we also needed to keep the ball rolling in developing the coffee mornings.  One of the commitments from the beginning had been that we would bring in people from relevant outside agencies to give informal briefs on their purpose and how they could help with issues associated with military service.  The good news was that, on seeing the social media page/group for Hook Veterans, a representative for Op Courage had already made contact.  His contact was an enquiry on whether they would be welcome to come and give just the presentation/visit that we had in mind.  In a few weeks time this contact was to result in our very first visit from an external help agency.

Branded Clothing

Work with the clothing supplier was still ongoing.  The first design submission that we made had turned out to be a tad ambitious in the level detail expected from an embroidered logo of the appropriate size.  Harlequin CPS, the chosen supplier, were fantastic and we met a couple of times to further develop a logo/patch that was both appropriate and realistic.  Although it would have been great to have had the T-shirts for the Hook Village show, this was now looking unlikely.
